Edel means "noble" and mayer is a usual German family name that has no real meaning. Though I found a book on the origin of "Edelmayer" at amazon in the form of a book "The Edelmayer Name in History" it costs $29.95

I also found in a database some geneaology of edelmayers here:
http://www.kindredkonnections.com/cgi-bin/nextpedsf?55646354+000000+English+0-0+0+1
As well another info:
http://www.kielhorn-peine.de/namen_orte_abc/e.htm says that this name's origin comes from the region of "Banat" that was formerly Austrian-Hungarian constitution and after 1920 it was divided to Romania, Hungary and Serbia. So probably this is the origin place of family "Edelmayer"
And the name seems to mean "noble one"
